Summary Dutch football association chief van Praag says he is challenging Sepp Blatter for FIFA presidency
THE HAGUE, Netherlands: (AP) - Dutch football association chief Michael van Praag says he is challenging Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency.
The Dutch association said in a statement Monday that Van Praag will send his official candidacy letter along with five declarations of support from national federations to FIFA headquarters on Tuesday.
Van Praag says in a written statement he is worried about FIFA and that "it is about time that the organization is normalized and that its full focus is back on football."
He says he chose to run after no other credible challenger emerged to run against Blatter.
Potential candidates must meet a Thursday deadline to be nominated by five of FIFA s 209 member federations.
Blatter is seeking a fifth presidential term in the May 29 ballot.
