Summary Oscar put Chelsea ahead in 43rd minute before setting up Diego Costa's second-half strike
LONDON: (AP) - Chelsea overcame a difficult start to beat Newcastle 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, moving two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League after Manuel Pellegrini s side was held to a 1-1 draw at Everton.
Oscar put Chelsea ahead in the 43rd minute against the run of play, before setting up Diego Costa s second-half strike to make the game safe.
At Goodison Park, City took the lead through Fernandinho s fortuitous strike in the 74th, but Steven Naismith headed an equalizer for Everton four minutes later to end its slide of four straight defeats.
Earlier Saturday, Liverpool won 1-0 at Sunderland thanks to Lazar Markovic s first-half strike. Brendan Rodgers side is provisionally only four points away from the top four though 17 points behind Chelsea.
