Summary US endurance swimmer Diana Nyad's is less than 16 kilometers from Florida.

KEY WEST (AP) - Nyad is trying to become the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage. She says this will be her final try.

In an online update posted before dawn Monday, her team says she has swum 44 hours so far and is expected to reach land Monday afternoon. The swim is expected to be more than 100 miles (160 kilometers) if she completes it.

Nyad recently turned 64. She tried three times in 2011 and 2012. Her last attempt ended amid boat trouble, storms, unfavorable currents and jellyfish stings that left her face puffy and swollen.
