Summary United's stance all summer has been that Rooney is not for sale.
MANCHESTER (AP) - Wayne Rooney will start for Manchester United in Monday's Premier League match against Chelsea, pitching the unsettled striker against the club which has been trying to sign him this summer.
Rooney was promoted to the starting XI after being a substitute in United's opening league game a 4-1 win at Swansea last weekend.
Chelsea made two offers in the offseason for Rooney, who indicated to United toward the end of last season that he wanted to leave. And Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said last week that his club will make a third bid after this match.
United's stance all summer has been that Rooney is not for sale.
The transfer window shuts on Sept. 2.
