Summary

Lazio on Sunday recorded only their third league win of the season thanks to wingback Aleksandar Kolarov's classy goal, beating 10-man Genoa 1-0 at home. AC Milan's run of five successive league victories was brought to an end by Palermo who beat them 2-0 in Serie A at the San Siro.Genoa played their part, coming close in the 26th minute when a Giuseppe Sculli header just cleared the crossbar.Eight minutes later Lazio's Mauro Zarate sent in what looked like a cross that veered towards goal, forcing a fine leaping punch from goalkeeper Alessio Scarpi. The goal came in the 39th minute when Serbian defender Kolarov pounced on a loose ball, forced his way past an opponent and shot low past Scarpi.Kolarov came close with a free kick early in the second half, but Scarpi dived to save. Genoa also came close when Ivan Juric's header was deflected off the post by Lazio's Uruguayan goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera. The ball was booted into the Genoa half by a defender and Lazio's Tommaso Rocchi raced onto it, but was brought down by Salvatore Bocchetti, who was given a red card. Lazio are 15th in Serie A with 16 points from as many games, while Genoa are 10th with 24 points. AC Milans loss means that second placed Milan failed to capitalise on league leaders Inter Milan's 1-1 draw at Atalanta. Milan meekly ended their run and slipped five points behind Inter when Fabrizio Miccoli scored one goal and helped set up Mark Bresciano for the second in mid-table Palermo's deserved victory. Palermo always looked the sharpest of the two sides and could have taken the lead as early as the third minute, the excellent Miccoli playing a ball through the Milan defence to Edinson Cavani but the Uruguayan pulled his shot wide of the Milan goal.Early in the second half Palermo did take the lead their dominance deserved, Miccoli cutting inside from the left and driving in an unstoppable shot. The Palermo captain then produced a moment of magic to put the game beyond Milan's reach. After keeping the ball in play on the touchline Miccoli turned, slipping the ball past the sliding Luca Antonini before crossing for Javier Pastore, the Argentinean had his shot blocked but the loose ball fell into the path of Australian Mark Bresciano who slammed it into the net. Palermo could have added another in the 66th minute when Cavani was again put through clear on goal, this time his shot hit the side netting.Milan had chances to get back into the game but Palermo goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu saved well from Filippo Inzaghi and Gianluca Zambrotta, before Alexandre Pato summed up Milan's miserable day when he miskicked the ball in injury time with the goal at his mercy.
