KASHIWA, Japan (AP) - Jorge Wagner scored one goal and set up another as Kashiwa Reysol beat South Korean side Jeonbuk Motors 3-2 on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Asian Champions League.
The former J-League champions won 5-2 on aggregate to earn a spot in the quarterfinals, with the draw to be held in Kuala Lumpur on June 20.
Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande beat Australian club Central Coast Mariners 3-0 to join Kashiwa in the last eight.
Jeonbuk dominated long stretches of the first half and went ahead in the 22nd minute through an own goal by Tatsuya Masushima, but the hosts pulled even when Hirofumi Watanabe met Wagner's cross with a diving header in the 43rd to restore Kashiwa's overall advantage.
Wagner widened the lead six minutes after the break when the Brazilian guided a low right-footed shot into the bottom corner, and Masato Kudo made it 3-1 midway through the second half.
"After falling behind we were able to find some energy," Kashiwa coach Nelsinho said. "We knew it was going to be a tough match because they are a good team but we were able to control the game in the second half and I want to congratulate my players."
Jeonbuk continued to push for a way back but had to wait until the 87th minute for substitute Kevin Oris to score a goal that was little consolation for the visitors.
"It was difficult after we conceded the second goal early in the first half," Jeonbuk coach Fabio Lefundes said.
Kashiwa, the only team from Japan left in the competition, extended its unbeaten record to eight games.
In Guangzhou, China, Muriqui, Dario Conca and Lin Gao scored as Marcello Lippi's side won 5-1 on aggregate following a 2-1 win in Australia in the first leg.
Evergrande was without Paraguay striker Lucas Barrios but dominated from the outset with Brazilian Muriqui scoring in the seventh minute before Conca doubled the lead on a penalty kick in first half stoppage time. Lin put the result beyond doubt with his second goal of the tournament in the 68th minute.
