Summary Manchester United beat West Brom 2-0 for its seventh win in eight matches in Premier League.
Manchester United will enter 2013 with a seven-point lead in the Premier League after beating West Bromwich Albion 2-0 on Saturday for its seventh win in eight matches.
Robin van Persie scored his league-leading 14th goal, and 17th of the season in all competitions, in the 90th minute to add to West Brom defender Gareth McAuley s own goal in the ninth minute at Old Trafford.
McAuley diverted a fierce cross from Ashley Young into his own net, and Van Persie came off the bench midway through the second half to curl in a brilliant attempt.
The return of captain Nemanja Vidic helped United to finish only its fourth league game this season without conceding a goal. The Serbian center back has been plagued by injuries in the past 16 months.
