Senate body seeks report on delay in Malakand tunnel projects

Summary A Senate body on Thursday sought report about the delay in Malakand Tunnel projects.

 

ISLAMABAD: Senate sub-committee of Standing Committee on Communication has sought report on delay in Malakand Tunnel projects.

 

Committee met here Thursday under its convener Zahid Khan in parliament house to review the work on Chakadra pull, Timorgra road, Mangora Kalam road, Tekht Bhai, Malakand tunnel and Taxila underpass. Members of committee and officials of ministry of communication participated in the meeting.

 

National High Way (NHA) officials told the participants of the meeting that work on Malakand tunnel could be started one year after loan is disbursed by Korean bank. Consultancy survey and designing work will be completed within five years, they pointed out.

 

They also informed the committee this was correct that impression was given to Korea that government of Pakistan did not take any interest in Malakand Tunnel project. However Korean government and Koran bank had now been assured that government was taking full interest in the project, they added.

 

Communication secretary told the committee that officials of NHA had given the impression to Korean government about lack of interest of government of Pakistan in these projects.
