Summary Terrorists targeted Mardan 23 times during the current year.

 

MARDAN: During 2012 in Mardan, a top police officer was martyred and a suspected militant was killed while 15 people including nine police men including a station house officer (SHO) got seriously injured in different incidents of terrorism.

 

During the current year, total 23 incidents of terrorism occurred in Mardan district among which police foiled three attempts.

 

Suspected militants targeted 8 schools, 2 CD shops, 2 private building, 2 police post, 2 power transmission lines and a shrine in district during 2012.

 

Alleged militant Bawar Khan was killed while his son who is also a suspected militant named Abid escaped and a police Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Zar Nosih Khan martyred in the limits of Chura police station in a joint operation of police and security forces against the militants in the current year.

 

Six policemen including SHO Khankhel Khan, driver Hashmat and constables Fazle Subhan, Iqbal, Kachkol and Jahangir sustained injuries in a remote-controlled bomb attack planted on a roadside, in the limits of police station Rustam. Source added that from 2008 militants has set up their strongholds in the limits of Chura and Jabbar police stations.

 

The majority of the militants belonging to Bakhsahali, Gujrat and Mohib Banda villages and Hoti and Par Hoti areas of the city. Source added that in past the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan announced Amjad alias Musa, resident of Bakhshali, as its ‘Ameer’ for Mardan district. Amjad is wanted by the police in various cases. Source added that suspected militants Farooq Alam, Fakhr-e-Alam, Sher Alam, Mehar Dad and Sabz Ali belong to Gujarat and Tariq and Nadeem belong to Junghara Bakhshali. Sources added that local police and security forces had conducted an effective operation against the militants in past and due to this reason suspected militant has compiled to left the area.

 

In the current year local police with operation has also established police post in the empty houses of the suspected militants and criminals in the mentioned areas due to which in 2012 occurrence of militancy incidents has become very less and now big incident of terrorism occurred in the district as compared to 2008,09,10 and 11.


There is doubt that suspected militants have also gained benefit of procession on Yaum-e-Ishq-e-Rasool (SAW) and burnt church, the franchise of a cellular company Government Post Graduate College, OCS office and other public and private properties.
