Summary Gilgit continues to remain in tension while the educational institutions have been closed.

 

GILGIT: In the backdrop of intense tension triggered as aftermath of December 12 clashes, the city’s all educational institutions had been closed down and inter-city public transport remained suspended in the city on Wednesday.


A notification regarding the ban on the public transport was issued. The sources said the intra-city transport will continue to ply within the city as usual.


According to the sources, all exits and entrances have been sealed off. Stringent security arrangements have been made with contingents of police, the Rangers and scouts deployed around the city. Also, the ban on the use of motorbike persisted on the second day on Wednesday.


Despite the office opened, the business activities remained suspended in most areas. Meantime, no culprit involved in targeted killings on Hospital Road and River View Road, could be arrested as yet.


Karakoram International University, Gilgit-Baltistan will remain closed till March 4, according to the university spokesman who said the decision had been taken in view of law and order situation in the city. He further said the university was being closed for winter vacations as well.
