Summary Consumer court judge says the consumer council should be activated immediately.
PESHAWAR: The district and sessions judge Shaiber Khan said this when while addressing a training workshop conducted for lawyers from district courts Peshawar on consumer protection. The workshop was organised by TheNetwork for consumer protection with USAID funding.
The Honorable judge also suggested that; “On the pattern of Punjab, the provincial government should establish exclusive consumer courts instead of giving additional charge to the district & sessions judges.
The participants were given orientation on the concept of consumer protection and consumer protection legislation in Pakistan. Also a detailed session was dedicated to the N.W.F.P consumer protection Act 1997 and the relevant energy sector regulations.
Participants of the workshop resolved to effectively implement the Act and its Rules, 2007. The participants vowed, that, “they would be the torch bearers to spread the awareness and understanding of the consumer protection legislation among their clients and the society in general”.
Towards the end of the training the participants exhibited strong understanding of the consumer protection laws.
