Summary Islamabad Electric Supply Company employees went on indefinite strike for refusal of bonus.

In the backdrop of government’s failure to pay committed honorary bonus, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) employees went on for an indefinite strike from Friday.Secretary Information Sajjad hussain of WAPDA CBA union told online that former federal minister for water and power Syed Naveed Qamar had announced to give honorary bonus to the employees of the IESCO employees for their commendable performance however, this bonus has not been paid to the so far.He said that Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric central labor union and IESCO authorities held negotiations over this dispute however these negotiations were not proved fruitful therefore IESCO employees have started their strike and all the offices of IESCO have been locked by employees. Thousand of IESCO employees have also encircled the IESCO headquarter G-7/4 and have not allowed officers to enter into the office.According to IESCO employees, the government has delayed the payment of bonus to the employees from last four months without any reason while other power distribution companies have paid the amount to their employees. They said that several times employees union negotiated with the concerned officials but no step taken for the payment to the employees.Regional director WAPDA CBA union Main Rehman Ghani said that employees have not any other hidden agenda and their strike is purely for their right which was committed by the then Federal Minister for water and power Syed Naveed Qamar but after that administration is using delaying tactics regarding payment of this bonus. He said that due to employee’s strike complaints offices and customer relation offices have stopped their work and would not provide any kind of services to the consumers.Regional director Mian Rehman Ghani vowed that if government did not ensured payments of bonus to the employees then they would cut the power supply of the federal capital.It is to pertinent here that this strike would create certain administrative problems as more than 0.17 million bills were published on daily basis however after this strike publishing process of bills would be delayed and would create another mess.
