Summary The operation against unregistered Afghan refugees has been stopped in Peshawar.
Former District Coordination Officer (DCO) Peshawar Siraj Khan had given the deadline to unregistered Afghan refugees, after that operation was launched against them, during which more than 100 refugees were deported after taking them into custody.However after transfer of DCO operation against Afghan nationals, staying in Pakistan illegally was stopped. Now police and other relevant departments often let them free after taking bribe and the process of deporting them is halted.According to rough estimates, at present there are about one million unregistered Afghan refugees are living in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
