ISLAMABAD (Zeeshan Yousafzai) - The 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is scheduled to begin in Baghdad, Iraq, today, with regional peace and escalating tensions expected to feature prominently on the agenda.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar will not attend the meeting, an official told Dunya News.
Pakistan will instead be represented by its Permanent Representative to the OIC in Jeddah, Fawad Sher, the official said.
Dar’s busy schedule and other important engagements in Pakistan have prevented him from attending the session, according to the official.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has already arrived in Baghdad, while officials from Turkiye, Egypt and other Muslim countries are also expected to participate in the meeting.
The session comes amid heightened regional tensions, with OIC member states expected to discuss regional peace and stability, ongoing diplomatic efforts and ways to address emerging challenges.
The meeting is also expected to provide a platform for representatives of member states to exchange views on key regional developments, strengthen cooperation and explore diplomatic avenues to ease tensions.
