Summary Heavy rain and strong winds brought relief from the heat in Islamabad, Lahore and parts of Punjab, while the Met Office forecast more rainfall and PDMA warned of glacial risks.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds swept across Islamabad, Lahore and several cities in Punjab on Saturday, bringing welcome relief from the prevailing heat and humid weather.

In the federal capital, heavy rainfall with thunder and gusty winds significantly lowered temperatures, while adverse weather conditions also disrupted several flights.

In Lahore, rain lashed several areas, including Abbott Road, Garhi Shahu, Mall Road, Civil Secretariat, Sanda, Chauburji and Jail Road, making the weather pleasant.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), winds were blowing at around 20 kilometres per hour in Lahore, with more rainfall expected over the next 24 hours.

Rain and strong winds also affected Mianwali, Bhalwal, Kundian, Jhang and Chenab Nagar. In Mianwali, heavy rain inundated streets and neighbourhoods, while electricity supply was disrupted after several power feeders tripped.

The PMD also forecast rainfall in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warned that continued rainfall could accelerate glacier melting, increasing the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) and landslides in vulnerable areas.
