Summary Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirm commitment to regional peace, restraint and stronger bilateral cooperation.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing deep concern over the recent regional situation and stressing the urgent need to restore peace and stability.

The prime minister called on Iran and all other concerned parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could undermine the progress made toward regional peace in recent months.

During the conversation, Shehbaz emphasized the importance of honoring the commitments and obligations outlined in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, saying the agreement provides a strong and lasting foundation for promoting mutual understanding, respect and shared prosperity across the region and beyond.

Reaffirming Pakistan's unwavering commitment to regional peace, the prime minister assured President Pezeshkian that Pakistan would continue to play a sincere and constructive role in restoring and maintaining stability.

President Pezeshkian thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and other senior Pakistani leaders for attending the funeral and burial ceremonies of the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The Iranian president also reaffirmed Iran's commitment to regional peace and appreciated Pakistan's support and constructive diplomatic role.

The two leaders reviewed progress on the decisions reached during President Pezeshkian's visit to Islamabad last month and agreed to accelerate implementation of initiatives aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also conveyed his best wishes to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei. Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact and continue consultations on matters of mutual interest, including regional peace and stability.
