Summary BISP extends partnership with UN agencies, expanding nutrition support to 3.3 million more mothers and young children across Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to extend their partnership for another three years.

Under the agreement, an additional 3.3 million pregnant and breastfeeding women, along with children under the age of two, will receive nutritional support across Pakistan to help combat malnutrition.

BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid said integrating social protection with nutrition, healthcare and development partnerships can significantly improve the lives of mothers and children. She described the Benazir Nashonuma Programme as a continuation of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's vision and said its reach and impact would continue to expand with the support of development partners.

Senator Khalid said the Benazir Nashonuma Programme has contributed to a 22% reduction in stunting among children up to six months of age.

She added that the programme currently operates through 578 facilitation centres and 224 nutrition stabilization centres nationwide. So far, around 4.7 million people have benefited from the initiative, and with the latest expansion, the total number of beneficiaries is expected to reach 8 million.
