Summary Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that petroleum prices in the global market are falling and asked the government that the petroleum levy should be completely abolished.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman of Friday said that the petroleum prices should be reduced by Rs 122 instead of just Rs 22 with immediately effect.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that petroleum prices in the global market are falling and asked the government that the petroleum levy should be completely abolished.

He urged the government to restore petrol prices to Rs 250 per litre. He asked the government to fix Rs 250 as the maximum price for per litre of petrol for the next two years, claiming that this would accelerate economic activity and help achieve revenue targets.

He further stated that using the petroleum levy to collect taxes is both a burden on the public and damaging to the economy.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also said that there is a need to clearly refuse the demands of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), adding that Jamaat-e-Islami would continue its movement against inflation and rising prices.
