Summary The visit comes amid Pakistan’s continued diplomatic efforts to help ease tensions between United States and Iran

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reached Tehran on Wednesday for high-level talks with Iranian leaders regarding the ongoing US-Iran peace negotiations.

The visit comes amid Pakistan’s continued diplomatic efforts to help ease tensions between United States and Iran and revive stalled negotiations over regional security and conflict de-escalation.

According to reports, Mohsin Naqvi is expected to discuss recent developments in the indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, as Islamabad intensifies its mediation role to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.

Pakistan has remained actively engaged in backchannel diplomacy in recent months, facilitating communication between both sides following heightened regional tensions and ceasefire efforts.

The latest visit follows Mohsin Naqvi’s previous trip to Tehran last week, during which he held meetings with senior Iranian officials, including Masoud Pezeshkian, Abbas Araghchi and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

The discussions focused on bilateral ties, regional stability and efforts to move the US-Iran dialogue forward.

Earlier, Pakistan condemned the drone attacks on Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates.

Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said, “In the Security Council today, Pakistan strongly condemned the drone attacks on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates on May 17 as well as against the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for an immediate halt to hostilities in the Middle East during his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Beijing, warning that the Gulf region stands at a “critical juncture between war and peace.”

The Chinese president’s remarks came as both sides also highlighted progress in China-Russia strategic cooperation, with talks focused on expanding energy ties and broader bilateral coordination.

President Xi welcomed Putin with a ceremonial guard of honour and a gun salute at the Great Hall of the People, where children waved Chinese and Russian flags, underscoring the symbolic strength of the partnership.

The two leaders were also expected to continue discussions in a more informal setting later in the day, including a tea meeting.
