Summary A fire broke out at a garment factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone, with firefighters controlling lower floors while efforts continue to extinguish flames above.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - A fire broke out at a garment (Landa) factory in the Landhi Export Processing Zone on Sunday, prompting a large-scale firefighting operation by emergency services.

According to officials, the blaze erupted suddenly in the factory located in the Sukhan area and quickly intensified, sending thick black smoke visible from several kilometers away.

Rescue teams from Rescue 1122 Pakistan and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation fire brigade rushed to the scene and immediately began evacuation and firefighting efforts.

Authorities confirmed that the fire on the second floor of the multi-storey building has been brought under control, while efforts are still underway to extinguish flames on the third floor.

More than 10 fire tenders, along with water tankers and snorkel equipment, have been deployed to contain the blaze. Additional units were called in due to the intensity of the fire.

Fire brigade officials said they received the alert around 2:15pm and responded promptly. However, narrow access routes created challenges for firefighting teams in reaching upper floors.

Workers were evacuated immediately after the fire broke out, and goods from lower floors were shifted to safer locations to prevent further losses.

Officials added that the fire mainly affected piles of used garments stored in the factory, which contributed to its rapid spread.

No casualties have been reported so far, according to rescue authorities. Firefighters continue efforts to fully control the blaze on the upper level.
