NDMA warns of rain and hailstorms across Punjab

Summary NDMA forecast rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms in several regions from May 19 to 22, while Sindh faces rising temperatures.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast rain, windstorms and possible hailstorms in several districts of Punjab between May 19 and 22.

According to an official statement, rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Lahore, Sialkot, Kasur, Multan and surrounding areas.

The NDMA also predicted rain accompanied by strong winds and isolated hailstorms in various parts of Balochistan during the same period.

Rainfall is expected in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Chaman and Khuzdar, while temperatures are likely to rise in other districts of Balochistan.

In Sindh, weather conditions are expected to remain hot and dry, with a continuous increase in temperatures forecast across the province.

The authority further warned of rain, windstorms and possible hailstorms in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Swat, Peshawar, Bannu, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Landi Kotal.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are also expected to receive rain and thunderstorms at various locations.

Rainfall is forecast in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh and Kotli.

Over the next 12 to 24 hours, rain is expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

The NDMA said areas including Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Diamer, Astore, Ghanche, Shigar, Kharmang, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Rawalakot, Kotli, Mirpur and Bhimber could experience thunderstorms and rain.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain has also been forecast for Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan.

The NDMA advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions and extreme heat.

Citizens were also urged to stay away from weak structures and electricity poles during storms and heavy rainfall, while residents of vulnerable areas were asked to follow instructions issued by local authorities and weather advisories.
