KOHAT (Dunya News) – A resident of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat region has sacrificed his life to avert a potentially devastating terror attack near a sensitive interprovincial area, according to security sources.
The incident took place near the Jand and Khushal Garh bridge area, located along the border between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security sources said a suspicious individual, described as a khawarij terrorist, was moving through agricultural fields towards the strategically important zone near Kohat.
According to the sources, the attacker was attempting to advance towards a sensitive check post situated in the interprovincial belt. The movement of the individual drew the attention of a local resident identified as Liaqat, a resident of Mankor village in Attock district’s Jand tehsil.
Security officials said Liaqat confronted the suspect and asked for identification. Upon being questioned, the suicide bomber became nervous and detonated the explosive device he was carrying.
The explosion killed Liaqat on the spot, while the suspected attacker also died in the blast.
Sources described Liaqat’s actions as an act of exceptional bravery that prevented a potentially large-scale tragedy in the area. Officials said the timely intervention stopped the suspected terrorist from reaching the intended target, which could have resulted in significant casualties.
The deceased civilian was identified as a retired employee of Pakistan Railways. Security sources said his courage and alertness played a critical role in protecting local residents and security personnel stationed near the sensitive installation.
The area surrounding the Jand and Khushal Garh bridge serves as an important link between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and remains strategically significant due to its proximity to multiple transit and security routes.
