LAHORE (Dunya News) - Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi has announced that the Peoples Train will be inaugurated on August 14.
Speaking to the media after inaugurating a reservation office at the Railway Headquarters in Lahore, Hanif Abbasi said multiple development projects are underway in Pakistan Railways, adding that the biggest challenge remains the railway track system.
He said work is progressing on the Lahore-Rawalpindi route, and after completion of the new track, travel time between Lahore and Rawalpindi will be reduced to two hours and twenty minutes.
The minister added that development work on the Rohri track is also continuing and is expected to be completed by September.
Hanif Abbasi said discussions on the ML-1 project have been held with all provinces, and the government is moving forward with consensus. He added that the Sindh chief minister is also expected to sign an MoU soon.
He further said there is major good news for Quetta residents, while talks are also ongoing with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
The railways minister said digitization of Pakistan Railways has been assigned as a task by the prime minister.
He added that the current control room is state-of-the-art, while seven more control rooms will also be established. FWO is also assisting in the project.
Hanif Abbasi said new stations are planned in Rawalpindi, Lahore and Multan, while Wi-Fi facilities will be introduced at all major railway stations.
