President Zardari on the discussion about the need for using modern technology for rapid development in different sectors, has said that the centre and provinces have to work together to achieve the objective.While addressing the cabinet at the Governor House 32 dams would be built across the country with the cooperation of China out of which eight would be constructed in Punjab at cost Rs 250 million dollars.Regarding Power sector, he said power projects worth dollars three billion would also be undertaken in the Punjab.Underling the need for exploiting waterways for navigational purpose he said a gigantic project is in the pipeline in this regard while railways is also being revitalised.He said these initiatives are being under taken in view of fast growing traffic and increasing requirements of transportation including that of cargo.He said in the first phase fast track trains would be run between Lahore to Faisalabad, Lahore to Multan and Lahore to Rawalpindi to be followed by another project of operating shuttle trains between Lahore to Gujranwala, Lahore to Sheikhupura and Islamabad to Taxila.He said 13 gigantic projects of roads and bridges are being implemented or at the verge of implementation in the province to be completed at a cost of Rs 32 billion besides six other mega schemes to be undertaken shortly.Responding to a question by a cabinet member, the President said that the issue of construction of dam by India on the river Chenab in violation of Indus Water treaty has been raised effectively by Pakistan at international level and soon an expert lawyer would be engaged to raise the matter at international forum.
