KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA (Dunya News) - The Home Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has imposed a ban on illegal gold prospecting and mining along the banks of the Kabul River, Swat River and Indus River following a decision by the provincial cabinet.
According to an official notification, the ban has been enforced for an initial period of 60 days.
Deputy commissioners of Swabi, Swat, Nowshera, Kohat and Karak districts have been directed to ensure immediate implementation of the decision.

The statement highlighted that illegal excavation along riverbanks is increasing risks of pollution and land erosion.
Authorities also warned that environmental degradation caused by unlawful mining activities could pose threats to public order and safety.
Officials confirmed that machinery and equipment used in illegal mining operations will be confiscated.
Legal action will be taken against violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
