LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought detailed information about ventilators available in hospitals across Punjab while hearing a case concerning deaths caused by measles.

Justice Awais Khalid presided over the proceedings.

During the hearing, counsel for the Judicial Activism Panel, Azhar Siddique, presented arguments highlighting alleged deficiencies in public health facilities.

The Director General of Communicable Diseases Punjab also submitted an initial report before the court.

The petitioner argued that in the past, hundreds of deaths occurred due to measles and dengue, and claimed that a lack of ventilators and essential medical equipment in hospitals significantly contributed to the fatalities.

It was contended that many lives could have been saved if basic healthcare facilities had been adequately available.

The court was urged to order a transparent inquiry into the deaths caused by measles and to determine whether administrative negligence played a role.

After initial arguments, the LHC directed authorities to submit comprehensive details regarding ventilators in hospitals throughout Punjab.

The hearing was adjourned until February 27, with the court seeking a clearer picture of the province’s emergency healthcare preparedness.
