Rao Abdul Kareem appointed IG Punjab, Usman Anwar named DG FIA

Outgoing IGP Dr Usman Anwar is likely to be given his next posting at the federal level.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - The federal government has issued an official notification appointing Rao Abdul Kareem as Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police and Dr Usman Anwar as Director General (DG) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
According to details, Rao Abdul Kareem, who belongs to the 24th Common, was previously serving as Additional IG Special Branch before his new appointment.

Meanwhile, Dr Usman Anwar has been appointed as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general, as per the issued notification. Dr Usman Anwar was appointed to his previous post on January 24, 2023, completed more than three years as IG Punjab before being assigned as DG FIA.

The appointment comes after several senior officers were considered for the top post, including Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana and Additional IGP Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Wasim Sial.
As per the notification, Raja Riffat Mukhtar has also been posted to the Narcotics Control Division.
Who is Rao Abdul Kareem?
Additional Inspector General Rao Abdul Kareem belongs to the 24th Common of the Police Service of Pakistan.
He joined the police service in 1996 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
During his career, Rao Abdul Kareem has served as District Police Officer (DPO) in Jhang, Mianwali and Kasur, and has also performed duties as Regional Police Officer (RPO) Gujranwala.
He has held several key positions, including Additional IG of the Punjab Highway Patrol.
Prior to his appointment as IG Punjab, he was serving as Additional IGP Special Branch.
