Lahore High Court accepts petition challenging Imran Khan’s video-link trial in GHQ and May 9 cases, citing Article 10A violations, indefinite hearing adjourned, notice issued to Punjab AG
LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court has accepted a petition challenging the video-link trial notification for PTI founder Imran Khan in high-profile cases, including the GHQ attack and May 9 incidents.
During proceedings, the court issued notices to the Advocate General Punjab and summoned him to appear, while the hearing was adjourned indefinitely.
The bench, comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Tahir Mahmood Bajwa, heard the petition filed by Khan’s legal team.
Represented by advocates Sardar Latif Khosa and Faisal Malik, Khan’s team argued that conducting a video-link trial for such critical cases violates the constitutional right to a fair trial under Article 10A.
They emphasized that while other accused are appearing in person, Khan is restricted to appearing via video link, undermining proper legal consultation and case preparation.
The lawyers described the arrangement as a politically motivated action and requested the court to declare the video-link notification invalid.
The HC approved the petition for hearing but rejected the request for an immediate hearing date, stating that the office will schedule it in due course.
