ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message on International Anti-Corruption Day, said that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility of the entire nation, as corruption weakens institutions and undermines public trust.
The President stated that the United Nations designated this day in 2003 with the aim of steering societies toward transparency and the rule of law. Corruption, he added, slows the pace of development and weakens good governance.
He noted that Pakistan has improved its accountability system over time; funds have been recovered in multiple cases involving abuse of power and financial irregularities, with relief and assets returned to affected citizens and institutions.
President Zardari emphasized that accountability bodies must work beyond political affiliations, as transparent procedures and adherence to the law strengthen institutional credibility.
He further said that public confidence grows through transparency and professionalism. All citizens must reinforce their commitment to honesty and good governance, as integrity strengthens institutions and contributes to national stability.
The President also extended his best wishes to the organizations working for transparency and accountability.
