QUETTA (Dunya News) - A severe cold spell has gripped parts of Balochistan, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a detailed 24-hour weather forecast for the province on Sunday.

According to the advisory, most districts are likely to experience dry and extremely cold conditions, with temperatures expected to drop further during night and early morning hours, especially in northern regions.

The PMD reported that cloudy weather is expected in Quetta and adjoining north-western districts. Light rainfall and snowfall on surrounding hills are likely at a few locations, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Qila Saifullah. The forecast suggests that this weather pattern may intensify the cold wave across mountainous areas, prompting caution for travellers and residents.

Biting cold was recorded in several regions early Saturday morning. The minimum temperature in Quetta dropped to 0°C, while Kalat and Ziarat recorded –2°C. Other temperature readings included Zhob at 3°C, Sibi at 9°C, Turbat at 14°C, Nokundi at 9°C, and Chaman at 4°C.

Meanwhile, coastal districts experienced relatively mild conditions. The minimum temperature in Gwadar was recorded at 18°C, whereas Jiwani stood at 12°C.

Authorities have advised residents, especially in higher altitude areas, to take precautionary measures against the harsh cold. The PMD urged the public to wear warm clothing and ensure special care for children and elderly citizens, as temperatures are likely to remain low throughout the night.
