More than 5,000 NATO containers parked at Pakistans ports due to supply route blockade.
According to port sources, more than 5,000 containers have been parked at Gwadar port, Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Port Qasim for more than two months and each vehicle’s demurrage is at least Rs 1400 per day.In this view, ports estimate demurrage on NATO containers and vehicles around Rs 300 million per month.Earlier an AP report said that sending war supplies to Afghanistan is six times more expensive than before for the United States due to Pakistan’s decision to shut two of its border crossings for NATO containers.Pakistan took this step after a NATO air strike killed at least 24 soldiers at Salala check post on 26 Nov 2011.
