Summary Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that Pakistan gives great importance to its ties with Iran.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting underlined the need for further strengthening the bilateral relations in the coming days.She was talking to Iranian ambassador-designate to Pakistan Alireza Haghighian, who called on her and discussed matters of mutual interest and bilateral ties particularly cooperation of media between the two countries.The minister said that both the countries are enjoying deep-rooted historical, religious and cultural ties, adding “Pakistan wants to enhance its relations with Iran in the fields beneficial for both the countries.”She was of the view that joint production, exchange of dramas and promotion of people-to-people contacts would help further strengthen the existing ties.Dr. Firdous appreciated the idea given by the ambassador of making a documentary on the life of Pakistan’s national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal, assuring that the ministry would extend all possible assistance in this regard.Firdous said the government believed in the politics of reconciliation, a vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.The Minister said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led coalition government was taking steps for sustainable progress and prosperity by strengthening democratic institutions in the country.She said the government believes in freedom of expression as free and responsible media guarantees a strong democracy and institutions.The minister stressing the need for exploring more opportunities to promote cooperation between the media said exchange of media delegations would be beneficial for both the countries.The Iranian ambassador said Iran also gives importance to its ties with Pakistan.
