Load shedding increases as shortfall reaches 5057MW

According to PEPCO sources, Hydal, Thermal and IPPS produce only 7485 megawatts of power generation due to which National Power Control Centre switches off the electricity instead of distribution companies.The urban areas are facing minimum 9-hour load shedding while 14-hour load shedding is being done in the rural areas.The PEPCO sources further said that the hydal power generation has reduced to 1000 megawatts due to closure of canals and cut in flow of water from the water reservoirs while IPPS and thermal sources are providing the electricity less than the capacity due to reduction in oil supply.However, load shedding is expected to be reduced next month due to restoration of water from the reservoirs.
