LAHORE (Dunya News) – Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said on Tuesday that the opposition’s boycott of the electoral process is their political decision and prerogative.

Speaking informally to the media during the Punjab Assembly session, the Speaker said that although the opposition announced a boycott, it did not withdraw its candidate from the Election Commission, which made the electoral process necessary. “I support political processes,” he added, “but decisions like boycotts create distance from public representation and their rights.”

Expressing strong reservations over the treatment of Nawaz Sharif, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said that no other political leader has faced as much revenge as him. “Unjust cases were filed against PML-N leaders, and their houses were set on fire,” he claimed.

Referring to the events of May 9, he said that the state was attacked, including the Corps Commander’s house and the residence of Rana Sanaullah. “This is a dangerous trend that must be condemned,” he stressed.

The speaker also strongly condemned the egg-throwing incident on Aleema Khan, saying that whoever was behind this act should face strict action. “Political differences are one thing, but personal attacks are unacceptable,” he remarked.
