KARACHI (Dunya News) - An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday granted physical remand of Farhan Ghani, brother of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, until August 28 in a case involving the assault and intimidation of a government official.

Farhan Ghani and co-accused Shakeel and Qamar Ahmed were produced before the ATC by the Ferozabad police.

At the outset of the hearing, the ATC judge asked the investigating officer to identify the accused and outline the charges against them.

The officer stated that the accused had allegedly assaulted the complainant and others at the scene.

The prosecution told the court that the complainants were working under government supervision.

When questioned by the court about the department the officials belonged to, the prosecutor was unable to provide a clear answer but still requested a 14-day remand for the suspects.

The court also asked the accused if they had legal representation. Farhan Ghani and others responded that they did not have a lawyer present.

When asked about the nature of the officials' work, the prosecutor informed the court they were installing fiber optic cables.

“I did not assault anyone. The charges are false. I was merely passing by and stopped to inquire what work was being done and under whose authority. As Town Chairman, it is my duty to question and halt illegal activities,” Farhan Ghani told the court.

Later, the court approved the physical remand of all accused until August 28 and directed the police to produce them along with a progress report on the next hearing.
