ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - International Youth Day is being observed today (Tuesday) across the globe, including Pakistan, recognizing the crucial role of young people as the future of any nation. With youth making up more than half of Pakistan's population, the day underscores their importance and the challenges they face.
International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations that takes place on August 12. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first IYD was observed on 12 August 2000.
The theme for International Youth Day 2025 is ‘Actions for Local Youth in the Context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The theme highlights the unique role of youth in translating global ambitions into community-driven realities.
As development partners work to translate and implement the global goals within specific local contexts, aligning them with community needs while maintaining consistency with national and international commitments, young people are critical partners. They bring creativity, insight, and deep community ties that help bridge the gap between policy and practice.
International Youth Day is meant as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide. During IYD, concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world.
