ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Islamabad Food Authority has seized 25 maunds (933-kg) of donkey meat and 50 donkeys, besides detaining a foreign national in a raid in Tarnol, an outskirt of the capital, Dunya News reported here on Saturday.

Islamabad Food Authority Deputy Director Tahira Siddique said the recovered meat was to export to foreign countries, adding the authority was investigating if the meat was supplied to the capital localities.

She said a foreign national was detained and handed over to police for investigation. ‘The process of discarding the seized meat is under way. Those involved in selling or exporting donkey meat will be arrested and a case will be registered against them,’ the official said.

She vowed to provide consumers with safe and hygiene foods and take action against the mafia who violated the authority’s SOPs for wholesome foods.
