KARACHI (Dunya News) - A rickshaw driver in Karachi has attempted suicide by cutting his wrist vein in frustration over the burden of repeated and excessive traffic fines.

The blood-soaked driver was taken into custody by Steel Town police.

In a conversation, the injured man expressed deep despair, saying: “The poor no longer have the right to live with dignity.”

He explained that he faces daily fines while trying to earn an honest living to feed his children. “Every day they issue fines – Rs 5,000, Rs 10,000 – for no reason. How we are supposed to survive,” he asked.

He added that in addition to the heavy fines, the police often impound three-wheelers, leaving drivers without any means to work.

The incident has drawn strong condemnation from the local community, which is demanding strict action against the traffic police for their alleged mistreatment and harassment of drivers.
