ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In a stirring ceremony at the National Police Academy, 43 officers – including nine women – officially stepped into public service during the Passing-Out Parade of the 52nd Common Batch.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the vital duty awaiting the graduates: delivering justice, safeguarding lives and maintaining order in both cities and villages.

Police reforms

As part of his vision for a more capable police force, the Prime Minister announced major reforms. These include the construction of a new firing range, a hostel facility, and the launch of a Master’s degree programme tailored for police officers. To recognise excellence, laptops were awarded to top-performing graduates.

PM Shehbaz emphasised the critical role of police in national security, noting that while terrorism is again on the rise, Pakistan’s armed forces, Rangers, FC, and police personnel are standing firm at the frontline.

Upgrading the Police Academy

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi shed light on the transformation underway at the Police Academy, revealing that its previous condition had been severely lacking just a year ago. He shared plans to model the institution after the Pakistan Military Academy to uplift training standards.

Recalling his efforts as former Punjab Chief Minister, PM Shehbaz said, “I established the Elite Force, not to protect the elite, but to eliminate social evils. We also set up the Counter-Terrorism Department and Punjab Forensic Science Agency in Lahore, and ensured 100 percent merit-based recruitment in Punjab Police.”

The event was attended by prominent figures including Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, adding weight to the moment.

For the newly graduated officers, the real challenge begins now – not on the parade ground, but in every street and village where justice must be delivered.
