Chief justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the court would issue stay order if the government raised the power tariff. He said that decision of increase in power tariff has always been made in drawing rooms and never been discussed in the parliament. The court forbade any increase in power tariff till the next hearing.Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that National Electric Power Regulatory (NEPRA) would not be allowed to overcharge electricity rates till conclusion of the hearing of suo moto notice by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. During the hearing of suo moto notice he said the system could be handed over to private companies if NEPRA failed to execute it and provide electricity to masses on cheap rates. Referring Iran's stances pertaining to the tackling of power crises, he said We have the example of Iran before us who maintained its entire system and enabled itself to export the electricity. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has adjourned the hearing till July 23.
