COAS resolves to eradicate terrorism after Quetta Railway Station attack

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Asim Munir said terrorism will never be tolerated and reaffirmed nation’s resolve and commitment towards eradicating the menace.
Army chief stated this during his visit to Quetta where he attended the funeral prayers of martyrs, who lost their lives in a suicide blast targeting innocent citizens and passengers at Quetta Railway Station.
Federal Minister of Interior Mohsin Naqvi, governor and chief minister Balochistan, provincial ministers and a large number of military and civilian officials also attended the funeral prayers offered in Quetta Garrison.
Following the funeral, COAS visited CMH Quetta and met with the injured of the tragic incident.
Gen Munir emphasised that this mission will be pursued with full national resolve and collective determination. He underscored that the fight against terrorism requires the steadfast support of all Pakistanis, along with the efforts of the military and civil institutions, to secure a peaceful and prosperous future for the country.
Earlier on his arrival, COAS was received by Commander Balochistan Corps.
At least 26 people were killed and 56 others injured as a result of a bomb blast at the Quetta Railway Station. Five railway employees, security personnel and passengers including a woman are among dead.
The injured were shifted to the Quetta Civil Hospital where an emergency was declared. According to sources, some of injured were in a critical condition.
Sources said the explosion took place just before a Quetta-bound Jaffar Express arrived where around 200 passengers were waiting.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that a suicide bomber was involved in the blast," said the SSP Operations.
He stated that the explosion took place when a number of passengers were at the platform to board Jaffar Express.
