Court asked to annul amendment, which infringes upon judicial independence
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday challenged the 26th constitutional amendment in the Supreme Court.
The petition was filed by Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar through Azhar Siddique Advocate.
The plea names the federation, the four provincial governments, the National Assembly speaker, Senate chairman, the president, and the prime minister as respondents.

According to the petitioners, the 26th amendment undermines the Constitution's foundational principles, contending that Parliament lacks the authority to compromise judicial independence.
They argue that the Supreme Court has previously upheld that fundamental rights cannot be revoked or curtailed.
The petitioners requested the court to annul the amendment, which they claim infringes upon judicial independence.
They further seek an injunction to halt the operations of the judicial commission established under the 26th amendment.
