ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - In the wake of rising smog and air pollution in parts of the country, the Islamabad district administration has imposed Section 144 in capital to tackle the menace, Dunya News reported here on Saturday.

The section aims at preventing air pollutants and poisonous gases, which not only make the air dirty but also cause health hazards, particularly for those who have already respiratory problems.

Islamabad Additional District Magistrate has issued a notification for imposing the Section 144 to ban smoky vehicles, burning of crop residues and brick kilns emitting smoke.

The ban under Section 144 has been imposed for two months, the notification said, adding a strict action will be taken against those found flouting the order.

The air pollution is taking a huge toll on the health of citizens with a surge in suffocation and eyesore.

Meanwhile, Kolkata had an AQI of 311 and Delhi trailing behind with and AQI of 258.

The AQI fluctuated in Lahore in the past one week after going past highly hazardous 1,000 mark in several parts, prompting the Punjab government to change school timings and making use of masks mandatory.
