The private college students were misled and incited to violence through social media
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) says there is no evidence of last month’s private college incident which was blown out of proportion for vested interest.
“There is no credible evidence regarding the alleged rape of a student at a private college in Lahore which led to widespread student protests in October,” says HRCP’s fact-finding report.
The report, which came to limelight on Saturday, clearly stated that a propaganda was created on social media and there was no truth to the allegations of any ghastly incident.
The private college students were misled and incited to violence through a series of activities on social media and some elements tried to exploit the situation by using statements of students to their advantage, says the report.

Keeping in view the growing misuse of social media, the HRCP underscores the need for improving digital literacy in the country.
It also suggests there should be committees to prevent harassment in educational institutions and they should work while ensuring privacy of students.

A Lahore police team on Thursday arrested an impersonator who had earlier claimed to be the mother of alleged victim in the incident involving a private college.
A propaganda was disseminated on social media by Sara Khan who claimed that she was the mother of the victim. A Model Town CIA police team arrested suspect Sara Khan from outside courts on Thursday.
