(Web Desk) – A senior US official has reassured Islamabad that despite occasional friction, the United States and Pakistan maintain a stable and extensive relationship.

The assurance from US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Elizabeth Horst comes after a recent resolution passed by a significant majority in the US Congress, expressing concerns about democracy and human rights in Pakistan.

Islamabad responded by firmly rejecting these concerns as unfounded, denouncing the resolution as an “unsolicited interference”.

Speaking during a mango party hosted at the Pakistan Embassy, Horst said "Like any long-standing relationship, there’s occasional friction."

"However, the US-Pakistan relationship is currently in its best state in years. We have achieved stability and broadened our engagement in ways not seen in many years."

Horst highlighted the opening of new dialogues and exploration of new trade avenues, as well as collaboration on health, energy, and climate issues which hadn't been discussed for quite some time.

At the event, Horst also recognised the outgoing Pakistani ambassador Masood Khan, who announced his farewell as he prepares to step down from his position on Monday.
