Shibli criticises the government for presenting a budget which is against people's aspirations.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Opposition Leader in the Senate Shibli Faraz on Thursday lashed out at the federal government for presenting an anti-people budget.
Speaking on the floor of Senate a day after the government announced its budget, Faraz emphasised that the PTI was the biggest of all political parties in the country and it deemed this an anti-people budget.
He contended that there was a clear divide between the man in the street and the elite.
During his speech, he took potshot at the PPP and the PML-N by describing them as representatives of the ruling elite. He lamented the taxes imposed on the salaried class and also criticised the government for imposing tax on the IT sector.
He deplored that budget was devoid of any economic vision as people earning Rs50,000 or even more in a month were making both ends meet. He censured the government for burdening all sectors with taxes as it would take the economy downward.
The PTI leader also referred to the demeaning remarks passed by India where in an attempt to further isolate Pakistan internationally, it said “earlier Pakistan used to hold a bomb in its hand which has now been replaced by a begging bowl.”
He also mentioned in his speech the properties worth $11bn being owned by Pakistanis in Dubai, which reflect the priorities of the ruling elite.
