LAHORE (Dunya News) - A presidential ordinance to appoint retired judges in election tribunals has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC).

A petition to challenge the presidential ordinance was filed by citizen Mashkoor Hussain through Advocate Nadeem Sarwar.

The petitioner has made the federal government, the Ministry of Law, and others respondents.

The petitioner contended that the presidential ordinance wasn’t fair and LHC has issued verdict related to tribunal formation.

It added that ordinance couldn’t be applicable on election 2024.

Petition pleaded the court to declare the ordinance illegal and unconstitutional and halt the implementation of ordinance until final verdict on petition.

It is pertinant to note that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been granted powers to form election tribunals and appoint retired judges in them.
