NAROWAL (Dunya News) – Disgruntled PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz on Saturday laid allegations of pre-poll rigging through postal ballot papers in the upcoming elections.

Interacting with a group of reporters here, Aziz pointed out that in his constituency NA-75, CNICs had been forcibly taken from all government employees, when only those on duty on the polling day should have been asked for identification cards in order for them to vote through postal ballot papers.

He added that in Narowal district, the Education Department had around 20,000 teachers and employees, and all of them were casting their votes through postal ballots, leading to an electoral fraud on a large scale.

Aziz stated that to prevent this fraud, he was submitting requests to both the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Punjab government. “We have contacted teachers' associations and are informing the media as well in this regard.”

The ECP had set a deadline of Jan 22 for receiving applications for postal ballot papers for the upcoming general elections.

According to the ECP, this provision is exclusively offered to government officials, armed forces personnel and individuals in public offices along with their spouses and children residing in a location different from the registered constituency.

Additionally, individuals in detention and those with physical disabilities, unable to travel, are eligible to cast their votes through postal ballots.

Similarly, individuals appointed by the returning officer, such as police personnel assigned duties at polling stations different from their designated voting location, can cast vote through postal ballot papers.
