(Web Desk) – The Pakistani government has granted special permits to foreign media for the coverage of the upcoming 2024 general elections scheduled for Feb 8.

As per an official statement, the government has already issued permits in the initial phase to 49 foreign journalists hailing from 13 countries.

These journalists represent a diverse set of nations, including the United States, United Kingdom, China, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong, Serbia, Sweden, France, Germany, Australia, Thailand, and Singapore.

The statement reveals that 136 foreign journalists applied for permission to cover the elections, and those who are yet to receive permits will be granted permission passes shortly.

Delegations from the European Union and Commonwealth countries are expected to observe the election, the statement adds.

According to reports, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has printed 200,000 accreditation cards for the event.
