ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Caretaker Prime Minister of Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said on Friday that long-standing unresolved conflicts were a constant threat to world peace.

He said 76 years had passed since Indian occupation of a large part of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement on the occasion of Kashmir Black Day being observed today, the prime minister said, “On October 27, 1947, India first landed its troops in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Since then, India has continued to forcibly occupy this area.”

He further said, “Over the past 76 years, India has tried different tactics to maintain its illegal rule over Jammu and Kashmir.”

“However, India launched a vicious campaign since August 5, 2019 to turn Kashmiris into a powerless community in their own land,” the prime minster said.

He said India had taken several steps to realise these nefarious ambitions such as reshuffling of constituencies, inclusion of non-Kashmiris in the electoral rolls and issuance of plenty of domicile certificates to non-Kashmirs and new laws on land and property ownership.”

PM Kakar said these undemocratic and illegal measures were in direct violation of the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

“Today,” he maintained, “Kashmir is one of the regions in the world where the largest occupying army is deployed. True representatives of the Kashmiri people have been imprisoned indefinitely for years.”

He said mass media restrictions were being imposed to cover up repression and stifle dissent. During the last three decades, thousands of innocent Kashmiri men, women and children had lost their lives at the hands of Indian brutality.”

“However, India has failed to suppress the struggle for self-determination of Kashmiris. The latest developments in the Middle East have made it clear that long-standing unresolved conflicts are a constant threat to world peace,” he warned.

Kakar said, “Three successive generations of Kashmiris have been waiting for the world, especially the United Nations, to fulfill its promise of an impartial referendum.”

He said the international community could no longer turn a blind eye to its responsibility.

The prime minister said international community must take practical steps to hold India accountable for the atrocities committed in Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Government of India should withdraw the unilateral and illegal actions of August 5, 2019, he demanded.

Premier Kakar said, “India will have to stop the serious violations of human rights in Jammu and Kashmir and implement the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.”

“As always, Pakistan stands side by side with its Kashmiri brothers. Pakistan will continue to extend its full moral, diplomatic and political support to the just struggle of the Kashmiris for their inalienable right to self-determination,” he said.
